The Brown Bears of Alaska

I went to Alaska in hopes of spending some time with the Brown Bears, also known as Grizzlies. I chose Katmai National Park as it is home to the highest concentration of Brown Bear in the world. As well, it’s a great example of how our national parks are able to maintain a pristine wilderness where multiple species can flourish.

This is pure wilderness. There are no roads or highways leading into this enchanted land. Accessible only by boat or float plane, the Brown Bear resides here largely undisturbed by visitors.

With bears, like all creatures, it is vitally important to respect their space. As I captured these images I was wary to in no way deflect their behavior.
